I am trying to find out if the so-called Secession Church in County Armagh around 1750 is extant and is able to be contacted with a view to exploring birth/baptism/marriage/death records...a forefather of mine, George Acheson (1724/1812), married to Elizabeth Weir, was an elder of that church in or near his home, Glassdrummond, Markethill, County Armagh. I am trying to unearth info about his father (reportedly Thomas Acheson married to Elizabeth Goff) which might exist in that church's records. should you be able to steer me in the right direction i would be most grateful.

regards, Marcus Wilson Acheson

I go to Markethill Free Presbyterian church because its a country church and Mr Porter is a good minister. I like the free Presbyterian church because they take a stand for there true Religion. There true religion being the full square Gospel of the Bible. When you go into the free presbyterian church you know your going into a church, not like some church's you sometimes wonder. I shall still continue to attend it.

Every blessing to Rev.Porter ,his wife and children as they settle into the church family in Markethill .May the Lord honour his ministry in the salvation of many precious souls .M Murray (Rathfriland)

I heard on the internet Mrs. Kathryn Mitchell singing "It's Invitation Time" - I was wondering how I could get a copy of this song, or the name of a book or music I could buy... perhaps get in contact with Kathryn Mitchell.  I would appreciate any information you can give me.  I have looked, and have not been able to find a copy of this song, preferably in 4-part harmony.  Would like to hear from you.  Thanks for what info you can give me.

Hello.  What a nice family website!

I wonder if you have any church records or information that would identify a Robert Dickson who married an Elizabeth ? of Markethill.  They had a son Robert (born circa 1755), who joined the Knights Orange Rangers and was sent to Nova Scotia around 1778.  He married Persis Pierce Giffin in Liverpool, NS, 22 Oct 1779.

Robert Sr. and Elizabeth were my GGGGrandparents. I have not been able to locate Elizabeth's maiden name nor any more information on any other children.

Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. My husband, son and I are planning a visit to your area and to Scotland this fall and are hoping we can learn more before we depart.  I'm adding your church to our proposed itinerary.

Thank you for your time, and may God bless you and yours.
Sincerely,

For my father's 80th birthday, we are visiting your area to trace our ancestors. David Stewart was born in 1758 in Ballylane, married Ann Porter (b 1758) daughter of John and Margaret Porter. They had a baby in 1799 John Porter Stewart and emigrated to New York and Michigan, where they helped set up a Presbyterian Church in a log cabin. Would appreciate help tracing gravestones, church records, current descendants, etc. Any suggestions?

A strange one this but I am looking for relatives of mine that I have reason to believe moved to Ireland in the mid 1920s from Scotland. His name was Walter Scott and I found the article in the Ulster Gazette from may 2002 with Mr walter Scott in the main picture. Although the man in the picture could not be my Great grandfather there is a chance he is my half great uncle. It is a long shot I know but I would love to know more about the side of the family so if Mr Walter Scott is still in the area or if anyone has any information to confirm or otherwise my inquiries I would be deeply greatful.

Rev Thomas Murray,
I want to thank the Lord for the message you published on your website on the "Sword of the Spirit."

When I was asked to share in my Church, I made use of several points that you had mentioned.

I am writing this to also share with you that as I prepared my message, I dicovered the following 'nuggets':

1. The Greek word for sword is really a knife or dagger and not what was always thought as a large sword. I shared that the dagger was used for hand to hand combat with the enemy. Spiritual warfare is hand to had combat and wrestling in prayer.

2. The Amplified translation presents a more accurate translation. It says: "the sword that the Spirit wields that is the 'rhema' (not logos) Word of God." This tells me that the Word of God becomes a sword when it is spoken. When Peter preached on the day of Pentecost, the Word spoken became a sword that 'cut' his hearer's hearts and convicted them. This sword is not actually in our hand as we know of a physical sword but it is a sword that comes out of our mouths. When we speak the Word of God that we deposit in out hearts, the Holy Spirit takes the Word and makes it into a Sword (dagger) that 'cuts' the hearer. Isaiah 49:2 tells us: "He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver."

Anyway, I want to thank you again and to bless you, your family and my brothers and sisters in Christ in Markethill Free Presbyterian Church.

In Him!

I grew up within the free presbyterian ministry, having now found myself in a situation where i have recently lost 6 very close friends in Iraq, i am struggling to find the answer as to why! I believe in God and that Christ died on the cross for me but yet i find myself questioning why?? I am not a christian sir but yet i know that "my soul waits for God and he shall be my salvation" so why am i choking up inside?

On Sunday 11th August 2002, after our evening service 70 members of our Church including 20 children went to Moore's Entry in the centre of Randalstown to hold an open air meeting at 8:30pm. At the start of our service a crowd started to shut sectarian abuse, they then came over and smashed the P.A. equipment after this they attacked the worshipers, even using an iron bar. Six member of our Church had to go to hospital for treatment. We hope to have a full report on our web site soon. Please pray for the injured and that next Sunday evening the Gospel will once again be preached. If you are free around 8:30pm why not come along and support our stand for Jesus Christ.
